Why Locals Love Farfalla

Nestled just off 3rd Street in the charming heart of Wilmington, NC, Farfalla is an inviting Italian restaurant that masterfully combines elegance with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. From the moment you step through the door, the ambient lighting wraps around you like a gentle embrace, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. The air is thick with mouthwatering aromas of garlic, fresh basil, and slowly simmered tomatoes—a sensory promise of the culinary delights to come.

Farfalla’s menu is an ode to authentic Italian flavors, thoughtfully crafted by Chef Dan who infuses every dish with passion and precision. Start your meal with their standout antipasti options like the creamy, luscious Burrata ($21), or the golden, crisp Arancini Al Ragu ($15), each bite bursting with rich textures and vibrant tastes. The Sfincione at $14 is a Sicilian-style pizza that strikes the perfect balance between savory and comforting—a perfect prelude to the main course.

When it comes to the piatti di carne e pesce (meat and fish dishes), the offerings soar. The Beef Tenderloin ($44) arrives tender and flavorful, making for a luxurious treat, while the Branzino ($27) is elegantly poached in olive oil, unveiling delicate, flaky fish that melts on the palate. Don’t miss the Risotto ($28), which customers rave about for its unexpected yet delightful kick—proof of the chef’s creativity and dedication. The comforting Roast Chicken ($28), accompanied by a rich bean stew, evokes the essence of home-cooked goodness elevated to gourmet heights.

To complement the feast, Farfalla offers a carefully curated wine list featuring varietals like the robust Nero D'avola, Fuso "Cala" 2022 from Sicilia ($12) and the intricate Syrah/Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Poggio Al Tesoro "Mediterra" 2021 ($15), giving diners a perfect sip for every dish.

The reviews speak volumes: David Baummer passionately shares how simply walking into Farfalla feels like making the right decision, drawn in by the atmosphere alone. Brad Persinger highlights the attentive service and impressive value despite initially feeling the menu was pricey, ultimately praising the portions and flavors. Mallory Magruder makes a strong case for Farfalla as the quintessential girls’ night out spot, especially during their weekday happy hour featuring $5 appetizers that are anything but ordinary.

Stephanie Mayew’s repeat patronage is a testament to consistent excellence, extolling the perfectly balanced flavors of the Artichoke starter, the bold Risotto, and the indulgent Pistachio Gelato paired with an unforgettable donut. Marisa Fuller suggests that while the food shines brightest, a small exterior sign might better guide lucky newcomers to this hidden gem, describing her quiet but thoroughly satisfying dinner highlight—a roast chicken with rich, flavorful beans, and must-try desserts like the olive oil cake and tortas.

Farfalla is not just a restaurant; it is a sensory journey into Italy’s heart, realized through impeccable ingredients, masterful cooking, and an ambiance that invites you to slow down and savor every moment. Whether you come to celebrate a special occasion or simply to escape the everyday, Farfalla promises an experience that lingers long after the last bite.

Five stars. No… that’s insufficient. Five stars does not capture the experience of walking into Farfalla, just off 3rd Street in Wilmington, North Carolina — where the air itself seems to whisper, “You have made… the right decision.” The lighting? Warm. Inviting. Like a gentle tractor beam pulling you toward comfort. The aroma? Garlic… basil… tomatoes simmering with purpose. Not merely food. Not merely dinner. An event. I ordered the pasta bolognese — because when one is at a place called Farfalla, one must trust the butterfly. And let me tell you… it soared. Perfectly al dente. Each bite a small revelation. Sauce that clung — not desperately — but lovingly. As though it understood its role in the grand design of flavor. And the service. Attentive. Precise. Arriving at the table not a moment too soon… not a second too late. Like a well-timed warp jump. There is sincerity here. Craft. Pride. This is not a restaurant that merely serves food. It delivers joy… plated. If you find yourself anywhere near 3rd Street — do not hesitate. Do not delay. Engage. Five stars. Boldly delicious.

We celebrated two birthdays at Farfalla recently and it was excellent. It was mid-week and the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived. At first glance the food looked pricey. So, I wasn't sure how this experience would end up. But, I was extremely happy. The service was very prompt and the server was courteous and did a great job. The kitchen was fast. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were really large. Once I saw the portion I realized the value was really good, because I was going to get two good sized meals from a single plate. We had four in our group and everyone really enjoyed their meal choice. The wine list is pretty sizable too. Go here! Enjoy! You won't regret it.

Farfalla is the perfect spot for a girls night! They have weekday happy hour from 5-7pm with the most delicious $5 appetizers you’ve ever had. We tried the entire happy hour menu and nothing missed. You will be happy and full leaving, trust me.

This was our 2nd time visiting and they knocked out of the park again. Last night we had the Artichoke, Risotto, Olive Oil Poached Halibut, and the Pistachio Gelato with the most amazing donut. Every item we ordered was SO delicious. Chef Dan is very passionate about what he does and you can tell with each item on the menu. We were so impressed by the kick that the risotto had we had to ask about it and when we found out that the lobster stock takes 4 hrs we knew that this place goes the extra mile. We highly recommend Farfalla!

Wonderful dinner. It was a quiet night when we dined but the food was spot on. I enjoyed the roast chicken that was accompanied by a bean stew that was rich in flavor. Finished the dinner with two desserts that you should not miss- tortas and olive oil cake. One suggestion would be to have a sign outside to draw attention to where the restaurant is as you might dry past it without knowing but if you do, put the brakes on, do a u-turn and enjoy a great meal.

This intimate restaurant setting has small tables that enable quiet conversations within your party. Our server politely introduced himself and helped us choose a wine. We all hade something different so we could all taste. My favorite was the gnocchi!!! Light, fluffy, aired bites of heaven in a rich, buttery cream sauce!!! Unfortunately that was what my son ordered so I only got a couple small bites. lol. My pasta dish was delicious. You can really taste the difference when the pasta is made fresh. All in all it was a wonderful experience.
